Happy Friday!

 

TGIF!  Glad this week is about over!  It has been a busy week.  Here is some fun fabric I picked up in Georgia two weeks ago.  The aqua fabric is Michael Miller's Cotton Couture solid.  I have not used any of there solids yet, so I though I would pick some up and see how it is.  It is very soft to the touch and I matched it up to this lovely Parson Gray yard of Curious Nature.  I had been wanted some of this line and they just happened to have it and it matches perfectly with the aqua!  Love it!  Not sure what I am going to do with it, but we will see!  :)

 

 

Going to be a busy weekend, so I am off to get some things done!

Fabric Mayhem

Happy Tuesday to all!

I hope your day has started out to be a great one!  It is kind of gloomy here today in East TN.  We had some rain earlier and with a possibility of more to come.  So it looks like a great day to get some things done....like sewing.  I have already been to the gym and I am back with some candles lit and ready to begin a productive day!

Here is some fabric I picked up at our local fabric store that will be closing soon, unfortunately.  I really hate that she is closing, as she has not been around very long.  She is so sweet and had some great prices.  I picked up several orange prints and a solid, for my Vol projects!  I got a couple of cute boyish kid prints, since I now have a nephew.  I figure these can be some future projects for him.  I picked up some more lovely Lark by Amy Butler, a batik, a print that looks like batik, but is regular cotton, some Michael Miller fabric and a lovely pink print.  Not sure what I will do with all of this yet, but some of these go with things I already have.  They will go into my stash for now and I will pull them out one day for a rainy day!

Work in Progress

Happy Day to You!

  Today is Wednesday and it's a Work in Progress kind of day!

I wanted to share with you a snippet of a quilt top that is done, but still needs to be quilted.  I also need to piece the backing, but I just have not been able to get back to this one.  It is going to be one of my favorites once it's done!

I will keep you up to date once I start back on this one!  I hope to get it done soon!

Baby Burp Cloths

Good Monday morning to you!

I wanted to show you the Baby Burp Cloths that I made for my sister recently.  I just mailed these to her, along with a baby quilt that you will see soon.  She just received them on Saturday, along with a new baby quilt and absolutely loves them!  These were very easy to make using cloth diapers, cotton batting and some fabric scraps.

 I just measured the length of these diapers and cut and pieced my fabric for each one. I cut my batting just about a 1/4 inch shorter and folded it over the fabric and ironed the sides down, then pinned and stitched the edges with some decorative stitching.  That's all!  It was a very easy and quick project and a very nice way to spruce up those cloth diapers!

I do apologize for the pictures of each one.  When I took them, I didn't realize the towel they were laying on was so close in color. It was a light blue, but it looks white in the picture.
 Anyway, I hope I have inspired you to make your next baby shower gifts!

Backyard Beauties

Happy Sunday to you!

I hope you are having a great day!  Here is a special baby quilt I made recently for my sister who just  had a baby.  My new nephew's name is Saxon and this baby quilt is called "Backyard Beauties!"

I made this quilt using Michael Miller's fabric line called "Backyard Baby" by Patty Sloniger.  It has fabulous critter prints, like bugs in jars, backyard critters, maple leaf whirlygigs, and birch trees with woodpeckers.  These prints were perfect for this quilt, because we grew up with several big maple trees in our front yard and many birch trees in our back yard.  We always had woodpeckers around pecking on these trees.  When I saw this fabric line, I just knew it would be perfect for a little boy and  to bring back the memories of us growing up.   

I also used Kona solids in Aqua and Peridot for the background.  I decided to do wonky star blocks for this quilt and alternated the blocks and backgrounds!  These blocks were nine inches unfinished, so the final measurement was about 36" x 45".

I just love how this quilt turned out and I think my sister and nephew really love it!  I also really enjoyed designing, piecing and quilting this quilt.  It now has a special home and will be treasured for a very long time!  That is why we quilt...to make special things for special people!
