Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Today is Thankful Thursday!  I am incorporating my 30 Days of Thanks today!

30 Days of Thanks~Day 8

Today, I am thankful for the beautiful sunshine.
I have missed it the passed few days, as we have had overcast and somewhat rainy days.  The leaves have really started to come off the trees, so late fall is setting in  and the bright colors are fading to the dull winter.  That is why I love the sunshine, because it is bright and happy, especially on late fall and winter days when there are not many colors in the landscape.

Here is a photo of one of my trees.  Leaves are now just about gone after the rain.

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.  These are but trifles, to be sure;
but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.

Thankful Thursday

It's Thankful Thursday!

Hope you all are doing well!  Today is Thursday and time to be thankful, but it is also the first day of November, a month full of thankfulness!  This month is a month to count our blessings for all that we have.  I am going to do something a little different and add 30 Days of Thanks to my posts.  A friend of mine is doing this each day on FB and I thought it would be great to do here on the blog!  So..., each day, I will add what I am thankful for that day and will do that the entire month!  This is a great way to launch into the holiday season.  tend to forget our blessings sometimes in the hustle and bustle of all the crazyiness.  :)

Welcome to 30 Days of Thankfulness!
Day 1~ I am Thankful that it is a new month...November!  November is such a great month.  It is still somewhat warm, but there are many cool, crisp, beautiful days in the month and it is so nice to still feel the warmth during the day, before we hit the cold winters

Let me know what you are thankful for today!!!
Have a great day!

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

It's time for Thankful Thursday!  Today, I am thankful for fall flowers!  I decided to plant some fall mums and pansies about two weeks ago.  I planted my flowers in the different pots I had on my front porch that had been sitting empty for some time.  I had been lazy and just never got around to planting flowers this year or last.  I was tired of no color and I wanted something I could enjoy and take care of.  Here is a photo of my Burgundy mums with some pansies scattered around!  I love pansies because they look like happy faces and these mums were just getting ready to bloom when I bought them.  These flowers make me happy and make me want to get to sewing something pretty!

Thankful Thursday

It's Thursday!

Today, it's simple...I am thankful for sunshine!  It has been very gloomy here and cold and rainy!  I don't mind it being cold or the rain, but being both cold and rainy is just miserable!  So, today it's sunny and I am thankful!  Not much sewing going on though as I have a little catch in my back.  Hopefully tomorrow I will be back at it!  Have a great and thankful evening!

Thankful Thursday!

Happy Thursday!

This is a very late post today.  I have been running all day long and I have not stopped until now.  I am just a little tired.  Today is Thankful Thursday!  Today, I am thankful for relaxation.  I am now sitting on the computer and taking care of a few things and watching Thursday night football!  It's football...not the Broncos, but I will go the Cardinals!  I just want to do nothing and relax!

Thankful Thursday!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!

Time for Thankfulness!

Today, I am thankful for cool, crisp air in the mornings. I love this time of year.  The mornings start out cool and then most days, progress into just beautiful, warm afternoons.  The summer heat is mostly gone, although here in East TN, you never know how hot or cold it may be from one day to the next.  Mornings like this are great times to relax for a bit and then get things done...like cleaning and sewing!  I have already been busy today doing a little cleaning and I am going to knock out a sewing project this morning!

Here is a beautiful image of a cool, crisp morning at Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  I love less than an hour from the park, but I do not seem to make it there very often.  This beautiful image was taken by QT Luong.

Thankful Thursday

It's Thursday and it's time to be Thankful!

Today, I am thankful to our Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild for finding a charity that we could become involved in.  We started making charity blocks last year.  We decided on the type of block and the colors and we ask our members to make a 12 1/2" block or two, once a quarter.  We then turned them in, put them together, quilted them and passed them along to a wonderful charity in our town that helps single mothers.  (I will talk more about this charity soon, as there are many exciting things happening!)

Here is one of the quilts we have done, recently.  We had decided on warm colors in oranges, reds, yellows and pinks and decided to do a pinwheel block.  As you can see, there are a number of different blocks, besides the basic pinwheel.  It turned out beautifully with all the variety of blocks and colors and we even had a few extra blocks to piece on the backing.  Our quilter did a simple meandering stipple on the quilt, so that it would not take away from the movement of the blocks.  I just think it is gorgeous.  The girls in our guild are so talented and so giving and love doing our charity blocks for such a great cause.

We did four different quilts this past year, in different block designs.  Two were in warm colors and two were in cool colors.  I will feature all of these soon.  We have decided to adopt this charity for the next several years, because we like their mission.  We also decided to do charity blocks every other month, instead of once a quarter.  We are doing improv blocks now in certain colors each time.  I am so excited, because I love doing the charity blocks for such a worthy cause.  I will share more with you on the blocks, quilts and the charity in the next little bit!

Because that's what kindness is.  It's not doing something for someone else because they can't, but because you can.

Thankful Thursday!

It's Thankful Thursday!

I hope you are having a great day!

Today, I am thankful for leftover scraps of fabric!
These blocks are for a charity quilt our guild is doing.  We just turned them in and I will be putting together all the blocks with sashing before sending it to be quilted.  The colors for this quilt are grays, blues and greens in solid fabric and we could do any inprov 12 1/2" block.  I recently made a pillow using these solids along with a print and had plenty of the Kona solids left.  So, I whipped out two blocks.  I love these colors.  They are Kona Grass, Kona Marine and Kona Medium Gray.  I love when I have big scraps of fabric that I can use for other projects!  It's always so fun to see what you can come up with!  I can't wait to see all the blocks put together.
I will definitely post as soon as it is done!

Thankful Thursday

It's Thankful Thursday!
I hope you day is going well!

Today, I am thankful for The Modern Quilt Guild!  Why?  If the Modern Quilt Guild had never been started, our local chapter would not have been started and I probably would not be sewing and quilting right now and would not have some of the wonderful friends I have now.

I am also thankful for the upcoming QuiltCon.  It is a Modern Quilt Convention happening in Austin, TX in February and registration starts today!  WooHoo!  I cannot wait!

There are many things going on in the modern quilting world and I am so thankful to
Alissa Haight Carlton for starting the Modern Quilt Guild!  This is such an exciting time to be part of such a great hobby and movement!  Go check it out!  There is so much inspiration!

Thankful Thursday!

It's Thursday!  Time to be Thankful!!!

Today, I am thankful for beautiful weather and beautiful views.  We are having some wonderful weather here in East TN right now.  It is unusual to have low to mid 80's weather for August.  I love it!  It is great weather to sew by.  I took this picture back in April at our Quilt Guild Retreat in the mountains.  We had some beautiful sunsets then and we have had several recently, but I have not had my camera in hand to catch them.  I am going to try harder to have it with me more often.

It has plenty of stars and the promise of a new sunrise and sunset every day. What the world needs more of is people to appreciate and enjoy it." ~Michael Josephson, whatwillmatter.com

I am working on several projects right now.  I have my card order in the works and I took some time to work on the quilt that I am quilting.  Today has been a busy day so far, so I am now back to it!

Have a great Thursday!

Thankful Thursday!

It's Thursday!

Time for some thankfulness!

Today, I am thankful for hobbies such as sewing and card making.  I love doing both!  Sometimes hobbies are just for fun and sometimes they turn in to a career.  I love that I can make some beautiful things when I sit down, think things out and get creative!  Hobbies really are therapy from everyday life.  They allow you to get into your own world and forget the bad in the real world, even if just for a few minutes.

Below is an example of getting creative.  This is one of the blocks I designed for the Quiltcon Block Challenge.  I will reveal my blocks tomorrow for you to see!

Today, I am also thankful for my son, who just turn 19 years old.  It's hard to believe that he is 19 and starting his second year in college next week.  Wow....where did that 19 years go?  I remember just yesterday of him being that sweet little baby that I held in my arms.  This morning, I was thinking about high school football, which starts tomorrow night here in East TN.  He was the kicker on his football team all four years.  Although, he has been out of high school for a year, it is just hard to believe that once again, I will not be watching him play tomorrow night.  A little sad, but I am very grateful for all the memories I have up to now.  We have had some great ones!
Here's to many more in the future!

knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger
and better than your current situation.

Thankful Thursday!

It's Thursday and it's time to be thankful!

Today, I am very thankful for vacations!
Yes, vacations!  It had been three years since we had been to the beach or even on vacation, for that matter.  Due to schedule conflicts with my sons' sports while he was in high school and other timing conflicts with our family that came up last year, we had not been back to the beach.  I love the beach and this year was so nice and relaxing!  I love just listening to the waves crash on shore, knowing I don't have to be anywhere at that moment!

Here is a picture of the beautiful clouds in the sunset across the intercoastal waterway marsh behind the house we stayed in!  This was the very first night we were on vacation after the terrible storms we drove through earlier to get there.

This week, I am just thankful to God, that we have such beautiful views when we go on vacation!
Much needed and very relaxing!

Thankful Thursday!

It's Thankful Thursday!

Hi everyone!
This has been a crazy week.  I forgot to post yesterday, but today is Thankful Thursday!
I am very thankful today for sewing time.  I have learned to sew and quilt and it has been wonderful learning experience so far!  It is like a little escape when I get to sew.  I am doing something I love and I can be creative!  While I do not have a dedicated sewing room at the moment, I sit at my kitchen table a sew away!  I know its not the ideal place, but I am working on it.  I love it though.  I will sit and listen to Pandora radio sometimes and jam away while sewing.
There are days where I can just sew away and then there are days that I cant seem to bring myself to work on anything at all.  That's OK, because sometimes after a big project, you just have to relax and stay away for a few days.  But then, my sewing machine and projects rope me back in!  I love it!
I have worked on a project this week, that is now gone, but I may do a reveal on it soon.  I had fun with it and am looking forward to quilting and finishing up a few projects soon!
Below is one of many blocks I did for a quilt this past year.
I will show you the entire project one day soon!

Sewing time is so relaxing to me...like some say, it's therapy! No stress, just sewing!
Let me know what you are thankful for!  Have a great day!

Thankful Thursday

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!

On Thursdays, I will be talking about things I am thankful for in the sewing world and beyond.  I welcome you to comment and let me know what things you are thankful for.

Today, I am thankful for colorful, bright fabric!  Below is an example of the the doll quilt I made recently.  I made it from a Moda Charm Pack and Kona Orange.  The charm pack had lots of different prints that I improv pieced and then I used Kona Orange for the background to make it pop.  I don't usually use a lot of more earthy, nature tones, but this was a great charm pack and I think it turned out really nicely.  My swap partner really liked it.

Here is an example of bright colors I love and tend to use a lot!
My favorite colors are bright blue, bright pink and lime green.  I tend to gravitate more to these type of bright colors for a lot of my projects when I can.

When I decided to do my wall hanging, I knew I had to do it in the colors.  I used Kona Bright Pink, Kona Chartreuse and Kona Aqua and then paired it with Kona Coal.  I will be hanging this in my sewing room soon.  I just love this...so bright and fun!

There are so many fabrics on the market from solids to prints and soon I am going to go through my stash and take pictures of some of the fun fabrics I have, so that I can share with you.
I have lots of projects in mind, but now I just need to find the time!  LOL

If you are thankful for bright, colorful fabric,
leave me a comment and let me know some of your favorites!

Have a great Thursday and be thankful!
