Fun Friday

Happy Black Friday to you all!
I hope your day is filled with pleasantness on the crazy retail day!
Take a deep breath and show others gratitude!
30 Days of Thanks~Day 23
I am thankful that I don't necessarily have to be out and about early this morning on this Black Friday!  I remember the days of getting up early when my son was little.  My friends and I had to go get the latest and greatest for all our boys!  Now, I am glad that certain clothes and money are requested by my college son!  :)

Have a very Happy Friday!

Working Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!
It's Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the countdown to Turkey Day has begun!  I have all the fixins for dinner...turkey, 10lbs of potatoes(I will make at least 5lbs of mashed potatoes, because I have have a 19 year old mashed potato freak-LOL), gravy, broccoli, cranberry sauce, sourdough rolls and pumpkin pie!  I am just feeding the three of us, but when you have a college student who loves to eat, you have to fix a lot!  I don't fix anything ahead of time, but I might make the pumpkin pie today.  I am ready...let's do this!
I am going to be working on Christmas cards today for my sister to finish those up and then get some sewing done.  I realized yesterday, I have a few things I need to take care of quickly to get done before the end of the month!
What are you doing today?  Are you crafting, sewing, cooking or just relaxing before the big day?
30 Days of Thanks~Day 21
Today I am thankful for having all my grocery shopping done and being able to relax before I start cooking tomorrow!  It is nice not to have to run to the grocery store for any last minute things.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Talk

Happy Tuesday!
I hope you day has started out well!  I am off to do a little grocery shopping to get the last few things for Thanksgiving dinner and also to do a little fabric shopping!  I need to look through my solid stash as I am getting ready to start a new project!  Fun, fun!
Today, let's talk about solid fabric!  I love solids!  My favorite are the Robert Kaufman Kona Solids.  I love the Kona Color Swatch card because it is a really great tool to use to match up your solids to prints.  I use solids quilt often these days and love to use the by themselves and with a little splash of pint fabric.
Here is a wall hanging I did this summer out of solids.  I know you have seen it before, but I wanted to show the simplicity and beauty of just using solids.  This is the Kona Coal, Bright Pink, Aqua and Chartreuse.
Do you like using solids since that is the popular trend with the modern quilting movement?
Do you use a lot of solids by themselves or so you like to use them with prints?
Let me know what you think!
30 Days of Thanks~Day 20
I am thankful for solid fabrics.  The use of solids has brought me into another whole side of quilting that is refreshing and interesting.  Solid fabrics have opened up a whole new world of quilting to me to explore and have fun with!
Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Tuesday Talk

Welcome to Tuesday!
I hope your day has started out on a bright note!  Today is Tuesday Talk!  I thought I would talk about Free Motion Quilting.  I have only done stippling in my free motion adventures.  I used free motion on a T-shirt wall hanging I did and also on a tote bag.  They both turned out pretty well and that is the great thing about stippling, it does hide mistakes!  I have not ventured out into patterns yet.  Mainly because I haven't had time, but I am also a little intimidated.  We had a couple of workshops in our guild to teach some proper quilt ideas to our members.  Our president made up several samples of different, easy quilting patterns.  You can see them below.  They are beautiful. One of these days I am going to try several of them!
How about you?  Do you free motion quilt, and if so, what is your favorite pattern?

Today, I am thankful that my sons' truck was not stolen or vandalized yesterday.  They just smashed the back sliding glass window and they didn't take anything.  Luckily, other than a jacket, there was nothing in there at all.  Just a pain to get it fixed, but we are very thankful!  :)
Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Monday Mayhem

It's Monday and mayhem is here!
I hope you are having a great day so far!  I worked out this morning for the first time in forever and I am off to meet with my long arm quilter shortly.  I have a special quilt for here to do and I am taking three other quilts from a friend to get done.  After I get back, I am working the rest of the day to get several projects completed!  As the leaves continue to fall, here is pic I took about a week and a half ago.  Sadly, these leaves are now gone!  I just love their rich color and will miss them this winter.
30 Days of Thanks~Day 12
Today, I am thankful for an old friend whom I love dearly!
What projects are you working on today?

Sewing Saturday

Happy Saturday!

It's a beautiful, sunny day here in East TN and I am going to try to catch up on some sewing this weekend!  My grand plans this week of getting some projects done, hasn't quite happened.  I am going to finish several projects and then plan some new ones.
Here are some of my favorite Kona cottons:
30 Days of Thanks~Day 10
I am thankful for Saturdays!  Saturdays are great for sleeping in, relaxing and watching college football and NASCAR.  Some weekends, you just need a little break.  Saturdays are also great for sewing, which I will be doing a lot of later today.
What are you working on today?

Fun Friday

TGIF!  Happy Friday!
Today is a fun and busy Friday!  Getting lots done in the world of sewing!  Here is a sneak peek of a project I worked on and it is getting ready to go to my long arm quilter to be quilted especially for someone very special!  I can't give details right now, because it is a surprise!
I will reveal it very soon!  Happy sewing today!
30 Days of Thanks~Day 9
I am thankful today that God has given me a very loving, giving heart.  I love to do things for others and I love to give all I can.  I am in the process of working on several charity quilt projects and it just warms my heart to know that these will go out into the community with lots of love to those in need.  I don't do it for any kind of recognition, as some do, I just do it because it is such a joy to help others!

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Today is Thankful Thursday!  I am incorporating my 30 Days of Thanks today!
30 Days of Thanks~Day 8
Today, I am thankful for the beautiful sunshine.
I have missed it the passed few days, as we have had overcast and somewhat rainy days.  The leaves have really started to come off the trees, so late fall is setting in  and the bright colors are fading to the dull winter.  That is why I love the sunshine, because it is bright and happy, especially on late fall and winter days when there are not many colors in the landscape.
Here is a photo of one of my trees.  Leaves are now just about gone after the rain.
What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.  These are but trifles, to be sure;
but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.

Monday Mayhem

It's Monday and time for Mayhem!

I hope you had a great and productive weekend!  I was somewhat productive, but not as much as I wanted to be.  Sunday ended up with very high expectations and no delivery on that.  I ended up being kind of lazy and didn't really get anything done.  Oh well...sometimes you just need to rest!  Today will be a busy and productive day though!  I need to finish a few things!    Here is another sneak peek of my pillow.  I plan to work on it later today.  I need to get the back panels made and then quilt it!  Can't wait to see how it turns out!
The beautiful maple tree in the yard...the leaves will be gone soon!

30 Days of Thanks~Day 5:
Today I am thankful to be well rested!  I did not get as much done this weekend as I had hoped,
but I did rest.  So, rest is good and I can start off this week on a good note!
Have a Marvelous Monday!

Sunday Sampler

Happy Sunday!
Hi!  Hope you are day has started on a good note today!  Did you turn you clocks back?  I did and I am ready and roaring to go today!  I did go to bed quite late, as I was watching football and sewing.  I watched the Oregon game and the Alabama/LSU game.  I love that the Oregon Ducks beat Lane Kiffin and USC!  I do love Oregon, but it was just that much sweeter that they beat Kiffin(It's a TN thing...LOL.)  I am so glad Bama pulled it off last night, because it was looking really iffy there for awhile, but it was an awesome finish!  Roll Tide!  Of course, I did watch TN earlier and thank goodness we won!  That's about all I can say, because that was iffy towards the end and it shouldn't have been!  Anyway...enough about football!  On to sewing!
This weekend, I am working on several projects and I didn't quite get so far yesterday due to football.  I may have that problem today since the Broncos play and the Nascar race is also on this afternoon!  I won't sit in front of the TV the whole time, but it will be back and forth between the kitchen where I sew and the living room!  Need to get a TV in the kitchen and then in my future sewing room when I get it organized!!  LOL
Here is a sneak peek of one of my projects I am working on.  This is going to be my pillow for the Pillow Talk Swap.  I hope my swap partner will like it!  Let me know what you think!
30 Days of Thanks:  Day 4
Today, I am Thankful for all God has given me in my life.  I have a wonderful son, who brings so much joy to my life.  I love him so much!  I am thankful for my family, whom I love dearly.  I am also thankful for the special, close friends I have in my life, who mean more to me than they could ever know.  You know who you are!!!  I am thankful everyday for all the blessings in my life and that God has allowed me to be surrounded by such wonderful people!
What are you thankful for today?
Have a Super Sunday!  :)

Sewing Saturday

Happy Saturday to You!

It's Sewing Saturday!  I am working on several projects this weekend and will have pics when I am done!  I have a table runner and quilt I am putting finishing touches on(well...the quilt just needs the back finished, then it is going to the quilter, because it is for someone special!)  I also started a pillow for a swap.  So, I would like to complete these this weekend!
I have been taking lots of photos of my trees in the back yard.  Here's one I took last week.  Just a little color coming through on the ends in the evening.
30 Days of Thanks~Day 3
I am Thankful for the beautiful fall leaves that are still around.  The trees make such a beautiful landscape as the days grow shorter.  I will miss these leaves soon!  :)
Have a Super Spectacular Saturday!

Hope you all are doing well!  Today is Thursday and time to be thankful, but it is also the first day of November, a month full of thankfulness!  This month is a month to count our blessings for all that we have.  I am going to do something a little different and add 30 Days of Thanks to my posts.  A friend of mine is doing this each day on FB and I thought it would be great to do here on the blog!  So..., each day, I will add what I am thankful for that day and will do that the entire month!  This is a great way to launch into the holiday season.  tend to forget our blessings sometimes in the hustle and bustle of all the crazyiness.  :)
Welcome to 30 Days of Thankfulness!
Day 1~ I am Thankful that it is a new month...November!  November is such a great month.  It is still somewhat warm, but there are many cool, crisp, beautiful days in the month and it is so nice to still feel the warmth during the day, before we hit the cold winters

Happy Tuesday!
This is just a quick post today!  I am so busy rounding up everything for my retreat later this week.  I am getting projects together and doing last minute errands.  I am so excited about our retreat.  It is our local modern quilt guild fall retreat.  We had a retreat in the spring and it was just wonderful!  I plan to work hard to get several projects pieced.  I will take plenty of photos and share later!

Monday Mayhem

Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend!  Mine was very busy!  I am getting ready for my quilt retreat later this week.  Mayhem started yesterday as I was finally starting to figure out what I am going to work on at the retreat.  I have plenty of projects, but just was not sure which ones to work on.  I have one project completely cut and ready to go.  It is a fairly simple quilt and should not take long to piece.  I was afraid I was not going to have enough fabric for it, but it all worked out.  Today, I have to decide which other projects I might take.  I was so focused on the one yesterday, that is all I thought about.  Anyway, that will be my mayhem for today through Wednesday.  I just need to make sure I have everything I need to take with me and then it will be on to a fun weekend!  I will take pics this week to give you peeks of some of my new projects!
Just wanted to leave you with a bright and happy photo today of my little pansies on the front porch!
Hope you have a Happy and Marvelous Monday!

Sunday Sampler

Happy Sunday!!!
Today is such a beautiful day here in East TN!  The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and the sun is shining brightly in a clear, bright blue sky!  The above photo is of some of the beautiful leaves on my maple tree in the back yard!  I am knocking out some chores right now as I sit here and type.  I am working on laundry at the moment and have to go clean the kitchen and my table in a few, so I can get ready to cut some fabric and sew!
Today, I have to get some things ready for our upcoming retreat.  I have to make some decisions on what projects I am going to work on and what supplies I need to take.  I have plenty of projects to work on, but I just have to narrow them down, so I do not drag too many things with me.  Have you done that before...gone to a sew-in or a retreat and taken way too many things with you to work on, thinking you were going to get them done?  LOL  I sure have!
I wanted to share a quick project I did on Friday.  This is a Trick or Treat Bag for my nephew and his first Halloween.  Now, he is only six months old, but he will will going to a Trunk or Treat at their church, possibly a Boo at the Zoo and they are going to go to a pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin!  Although he will not understand it right now, it will be some great memories.  I remember doing those things with my son and we had so much fun!  Oh...and he is dressing as Spiderman...
Baby Spidey!  He will be so cute...can't wait to see the pics!
This is his Trick or Treat Bag I made.  The print fabric is from Henry Glass and I bought it last Halloween.  I also used Kona Orange and Kona Coal.  I lined it with some fabric that had orange stars on a black background.  It was a fat quarter I picked up in the remnant bin at Joann's last year.  I used Warm and White Batting and I quilted it with straight lines on the bottom, which I did box in.  I also quilted the back panel in straight lines following several lines on the fabric.  I did straight line on the front print panel following those few lines also.  Then, I chose to use a big zigzag up and down the two orange panels and on the handles.  I did a very small zigzag along the top to finish the bag.  I think it turned out just adorable.  I did not really follow a pattern, although I did reference several bag making techniques to make sure I did it correctly.  The bag dimensions are about 10"x 8"x3.5".  I didn't measure it before I popped it in the mail yesterday.

Sewing Saturday

Happy Saturday!
I hope your weekend is starting out well.  I am working on several quick projects this weekend.  One is a Trick or Treat bag for my nephew.  I just have to line it and put handles on it.  I am going to finish it here in a few.  I will show you photos tomorrow!   Here's a couple of pumpkins I have on my front porch.  I haven't decided if I am going to decorate them or just leave them plain.  I have four total pumpkins, big and small.  I just love the white is so different!
Do you have projects you are working on?  Let me know what they are!
It's going to be a great, productive weekend!
Have a great Saturday!

Fun Friday

Happy Friday!
It's time to have some fun!  It's going to be a busy weekend for me!  I have lots of little projects to get finished and several that I need to get started.  I have to run and do a few things today and then I am going to settle in to some serious sewing!  I bought some Christmas fabric the other day and here is some of what I bought!  I love snowmen and I just couldn't resist this line from Basic Grey!  Love these little snowmen and I just love these colors!  I think this might end up as a Christmas quilt, but who knows!  I just love it!

What kind of fun things do you have planned for this Friday and the weekend?  Let me know!
Have a Fantastic Friday!

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!
It's time for Thankful Thursday!  Today, I am thankful for fall flowers!  I decided to plant some fall mums and pansies about two weeks ago.  I planted my flowers in the different pots I had on my front porch that had been sitting empty for some time.  I had been lazy and just never got around to planting flowers this year or last.  I was tired of no color and I wanted something I could enjoy and take care of.  Here is a photo of my Burgundy mums with some pansies scattered around!  I love pansies because they look like happy faces and these mums were just getting ready to bloom when I bought them.  These flowers make me happy and make me want to get to sewing something pretty!

Working Wednesday

Happy Wednesday to All!
I hope your day is starting out well!  I have several WIPs going right now.  I just finished two mug rug last night and started a little Halloween Trick or Treat tote for my nephew.  I am going to finish it later today.  Then, I have to start on a new some other projects.  I am trying to prioritize them, so I can knock some out quickly.  This morning, I am going to a fabulous little fabric store that is near the mountains.  She always has some great stuff at great prices.  I can't wait to see what she has today!  For now, I will leave you with a picture of some cute little penguin fabric I picked up the other day!

Isn't it just adorable!  I am not sure what I am going to use it for, but I knew I had to have it!
Hope you have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Talk

Happy Tuesday!
It's Tuesday and it's time to talk!  I wanted to share my wonderful swap item I received in the mail!  This is from our Fall Table Runner Swap in the Sew SwapIt group!  I received this from my lovely friend Lawana!  This is the most gorgeous table runner!  She knew one of my favorite colors was blue and that I love the ocean, beach and lighthouses!  I also am not a big fan of earthy colors.  One of her favorite colors is also blue and where she lives, they have wonderful blue asters in the fall.
So, from there, she created this absolutely wonderful table runner for me!!!!  It is so me!!!!
Absolutely beautiful---so much detail in the piecing and pleating!
Love the lighthouse fabric and the batik fabric looks like the blue asters!
Goodies from the swap---she knew I loved Nascar also!  Love both these fabrics and the Kleenex!  :)

Coaster/mug rug for my cocoa!

Close up of detail on the pleating---Just beautiful!

Love the little beachy!  Love the stitching also..reminds me of waves!

Love this star and the ships wheel!

I just absolutely LOVE, LOVE this table runner!
I am so honored that Lawana made such a wonderful piece of quilt work for me!  I know this took a lot of time and it will truly be treasure forever!  Thank you so much Lawana!
Tell me what item you treasure that you have received from someone!

Monday Mayhem

It's Monday!
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  I was a little slack last week and this weekend here on the blog, because I was very busy, but I also wasn't feeling so great.  I had a little catch in my back and it just kinda wore me down.  It's not 100% yet, but it is much better than it was.  I rested some this weekend and that helped.  So, I am ready for a new week!
Time for some Mayhem!  I sat down this weekend and re-wrote my To-Do list is getting very long!  I had better get busy!  I am working on several very small projects which I should be able to finish today.  I have to get really focused though, so that I can get everything done!  It is amazing how time flies and I cannot believe it is already October!  Where has that time gone?
One of the projects I am getting ready to work on is a Secret Santa Exchange gift for my Sew SwapIt group.  I found some really colorful reindeer fabric this weekend and I am going to pair it with a couple of Kona solids to make a special gift for my swap partner.  I am debating on exactly what I am going to make, but I love this fabric and I have several things in mind!  We will see!
It's is going to be a busy week!  Let me know what you are working on this week!
Have a Marvelous Monday!

Fun Friday

Happy Friday!
TGIF!  It is Friday!  It's been a long week and I am glad the weekend is almost here.  It has not been a very productive week, but that OK.  I will work hard this next week to get some things done.  :)
I wanted to share the fall table runner I recently did for a swap.  It is on its way to its new home and since it is out of the country, I am waiting anxiously its arrival.  I used a pattern in the book from Dare to Be Square by Boo Davis.  I modified the Chain Reaction Table Runner so that I could make wonky stars!  I just love the pumpkin fabric and I love how it turned out!

Thankful Thursday

It's Thursday!
Today, it's simple...I am thankful for sunshine!  It has been very gloomy here and cold and rainy!  I don't mind it being cold or the rain, but being both cold and rainy is just miserable!  So, today it's sunny and I am thankful!  Not much sewing going on though as I have a little catch in my back.  Hopefully tomorrow I will be back at it!  Have a great and thankful evening!

Tuesday Talk

Happy Tuesday!
Hope things are going well in your little corner of the world!  It's time for Tuesday Talk!
If you sew or quilt, do you like the modern, more free style of quilting?  Are you more of a traditionalist and stick to patterns?  Or...are you somewhere in between?
For me, I am sort of in between traditional and modern, in that I like some of the traditional style of blocks, such as log cabins, pinwheels and stars.  Really though, I am drawn to much more of the modern style and making things your own.  I love the wonky log cabins and wonky stars much more than I do the traditional style.  I love pretty clean and simple lines, graphic in nature.  I love to straight line quilt also.  I think the modern style of quilting suits me much better since I do like the graphic looks and clean lines.

How about you?  What's your style and why?  Let me know what you think!
Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Monday Mayhem

Welcome to Monday!
Today is mayhem here on the blog.  I have lots to get done this week and I am starting full force this morning.  I was busy yesterday doing lots of sewing.  I did my charity blocks for our guild, and I have some Secret Santa gifts in the works.  I am going to be working hard today!  Here is a peek of the tote bag I am working on for my sister.  This is one of several projects in the works!
Off to make a valiant effort on knocking out some projects today!
Let me know what you are currently working on!
Have a great Monday!
